Concept: Fragments of Scotland

I aimed to create an exploration of components that make up a bagpipe, treating them as an environment while taking apart the traditional patterns of a Scottish tartan. The origins of the bagpipe are unclear, with the earliest account being in Europe during the 9th century.  An account in French history states that their use in the Scottish Highlands rallied soldiers in the Battle of Pinkie in 1547.

Notes on the process
I chose a color palette based on the pattern of a tartan.  While green and red were complementary, I wanted to include muted colors and yellows that would lean closer to the cool greens. Within the composition, my challenge was to find a balance between 2D and 3D elements. The solution I found, placed 3D models as focal points while vector shapes or patterns acted as
textural or supportive graphics.
